Throughout history, people have been defined by their ability to speak or understand the dominant language. They have been dismissed and cast aside despite their amazing achievements, accomplishments and abilities. New technologies allow those who would be dismissed to have a voice, to represent themselves and be heard and understood. "Those who do not understand history are doomed to repeat it" Edmund Burke
I think that this is a perfect example of presumed incompetency. The fact that this women does not communicate in the same manner that the rest of us would consider normal creates a disconnect between her and society. I really connected her comment that if you ran into me on the street would you believe that I was capable of writing this. It's truly disturbing to think that the vast majority of people would not believe this to be the truth.
